Law and Crime
Neither the artist nor the painting's value was immediately known.
A man believed to have stolen a painting of George Washington from a restaurant in Pennsylvania has been identified by police.
The painting was reported stolen around 1:17 p.m. on April 22 from The Salt House, a restaurant in the town of New Hope, located about 15 miles northwest of Trenton, New Jersey, the New Hope Borough Police Department said in a statement last week.
“It was reported the subject entered the restaurant, removed a painting of George Washington from a wall in the restaurant and walked out with it,” police said.
Police had put out a notice seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man seen in surveillance photos walking out with the painting in hand.
While police said the suspect was identified, his name was not released and it was not immediately clear if the painting has been recovered.
Further information about the painting, including the artist's name and its value, was not provided.
