The coins were taken from the Maison des Lumières Denis Diderot, a museum dedicated to the famed French philosopher.
Historic coins were taken from a museum in the French town of Langres on Monday, a day after thieves made off with priceless crown jewels from the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Officials in the town of Langres, the birthplace of Denis Diderot, said in a statement Monday that a museum dedicated to the French philosopher would remain closed until further notice after a break-in.
“It turns out that the museum has been broken into, and an investigation is underway,” local officials said. “We will keep you informed of the reopening of the site as soon as we know more.”
