# WNDR Museum is closing both of its U.S. locations

WNDR Museum is closing its two remaining U.S. locations, the immersive-art company said in a Facebook post this month.

Its Boston space in the Downtown Crossing district will close August 30, and its Chicago flagship on September 7, the [post said](https://www.facebook.com/wndrmuseum/posts/1488643163294101).

“After years of curiosity, creativity, connection, and countless unforgettable moments, WNDR Museum is preparing to close its doors,” the company wrote, in a post it titled “The Final Chapter.”

WNDR opened in Chicago in 2018 and in Boston in 2022, the post said. It thanked guests, artists and “our amazing part-time teams.”

The post did not say why the company is closing.

The announcement came three months after WNDR pitched reporters on new summer programming in Chicago.

A May 20 release said Studio Nawa, the company’s top pick from an “Artist Call initiative,” would debut an installation called “Body of Water” on June 6\. The work would stay “for six months, as part of WNDR’s new rotating artist collective program,” the release said.

A six-month run from that debut would reach early December, but the Chicago location is set to close September 7.

The same release promoted Pride Nights every Friday and Saturday in June, with a portion of ticket sales going to Center on Halstead, which the release said supports “the LGBT+ community in Chicagoland.” It also described performances in May tied to Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

WNDR, operated by WNDR Global, Inc., opened at 1130 W. Monroe St. in Chicago on September 18, 2018, first as a pop-up before becoming what it calls its flagship, the company’s [website says](https://www.wndrmuseum.com/wndr-story?ref=urgentmatter.press).

A review of federal court records by Urgent Matter found no bankruptcy petition by WNDR Global, Inc., and only one prior lawsuit against the museum.

In that 2019 case, a blind woman, Marion Kiler, alleged that she could not buy a ticket on the company’s website using screen reader software, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, court documents show. Kiler voluntarily dismissed the case about five months later, and the court made no findings.
