Here is our fourth monthly digital "print" edition of Urgent Matter, available to paid subscribers.
It is also our anniversary issue. Urgent Matter turns one in about two weeks.
Seattle painter Morgan Patten leads the edition. Her first solo show opens in December, and she has some advice for artists weighing a $35 open-call fee.
"Spend that $35 on really good sandwiches instead," Patten told Urgent Matter.
The issue also features questionnaire profiles of three more artists.
Valeria Deminova is building her first home studio after more than a year without one. Ping Wang fractured a finger at the NARS Foundation residency while waiting on an O-1 artist visa. Mariam Megalla works two jobs to pay for her studio at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
Be sure to check out our October and November art fair calendar, a jobs and residencies roundup, and Urgent Matter's "Framed!" crossword. This month's "Still Missing" page features cats listed in the FBI's National Stolen Art File.
I also wrote a note in this issue about our first year. In September, I launched a GoFundMe to keep Urgent Matter running into year two. As of September 30, seven donors had given $340 toward the $7,000 goal.
Artists who want to be featured in a future edition can email adam@urgentmatter.press to receive the questionnaire.
Potential advertisers, there are still open pages. Reach out at the same address.
