Damîen Bertelle-Rogier, the Paris-born dealer known as Damîen Dakota, is closing his Brussels gallery, Super Dakota, at the end of October and launching MeatSpace Institute of Arts, which he described as “an institution at the intersection of art and gaming.”

“This has been a great journey, but after 15 years the model of a commercial art gallery doesn’t match my ambitions anymore. I want to continue supporting artists through other platforms and models,” Dakota said in an [Instagram post](https://www.instagram.com/superdakota?ref=urgentmatter.press) Friday.

He said he is starting MeatSpace “with a few amazing humans” and that it is “designed to make culture radically accessible to anyone, anywhere and to rethink the role of museums and art institutions in the future.”

The post does not name his partners or say where or when the institute will open. It ends: “Stay tuned…”

Searches by Urgent Matter did not turn up a website or public listing for MeatSpace Institute of Arts as of Saturday.

Super Dakota will continue “as a space for curatorial research, working closely with artists, collectors and institutions to build collections and projects focused on historical relevance and theoretical aesthetics,” Dakota said.

“For the past 10 years I have collaborated in depth with a few collectors to build thoughtful and lasting collections, and I am looking forward to continue,” he said.

The last show is Adrian Geller’s solo exhibition “C’est vous que ce village là-bas attend pour s’éveiller à l’existence,” which the gallery’s website lists as running September 10 to October 17.

The site lists 16 represented artists, among them !Mediengruppe Bitnik, Baptiste Caccia, Alex Clarke, John Divola, Chris Dorland, Tabor Robak, LaRissa Rogers and Julia Wachtel.

Super Dakota opened in Brussels in September 2013, the gallery’s [Frieze directory listing](https://www.frieze.com/gallery/super-dakota?ref=urgentmatter.press) says. A [Meer listing](https://www.meer.com/superdakota?ref=urgentmatter.press) dates its predecessor, Galerie Dakota, to 2012.

Before Brussels, Dakota ran a salon modeled on Gertrude Stein’s in a Paris apartment with a business partner, he told [Artspace in 2016](https://www.phaidon.com/en-ca/blogs/artspace/super-dakotas-founder-on-why-the-art-world-needs-transparency?ref=urgentmatter.press), after years in the music business that included work for labels on acts such as Muse.

In that interview, he said many young galleries vanish within a few years of opening. “They close their doors because they burn the cash too fast,” he said.

He also said then that he had no interest in running 10 galleries and would rather start a publishing house than open a second space.

The gallery was known for emphasizing new technologies. At NADA Miami in 2017, [Artnet News](https://news.artnet.com/market/nada-miami-beach-most-attention-getting-artwork-1175468?ref=urgentmatter.press) called its booth the fair’s most technically advanced, for !Mediengruppe Bitnik videos of masked avatars reading messages written by bots on the hacked dating site Ashley Madison.

The gallery and Dakota’s personal account shared the post, which had more than 900 likes by Saturday.

“Congrats on creating something really wonderful. I’ve always enjoyed following along. Excited to see what’s next!” artist Olivia Gossett Cooper wrote in a comment.

HK Art Advisory Group commented that teaching young gamers about art “will create a whole new generation of collectors!”
