# FBI returns 48 ancient artifacts to Egypt at Los Angeles ceremony

The FBI returned 48 ancient artifacts to Egypt at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Friday, the bureau's Los Angeles field office said.

Patrick Grandy, the assistant director in charge of the Los Angeles field office, hosted Egypt’s Consul General and a regional director from the U.S. State Department at the event, the FBI [said in a statement](https://x.com/FBILosAngeles/status/2090917877826105843?ref=urgentmatter.press) on social media.

He was joined by members of the FBI's Art Crime Team and the bureau's legal attaché assigned to Cairo.

Most of the objects are thousands of years old and date to the Pharaonic, Roman and Coptic periods, the FBI said. They include amulets, carved figures and funerary objects.

Grandy and Hossam Aly, the consul general, signed ceremonial repatriation certificates at the ceremony, the FBI said.

“The government of the United States of America, by and through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Los Angeles Field Office and Art Crime Team, hereby repatriates 48 items of Egyptian cultural property to the Arab Republic of Egypt,” the certificates read.

Objects displayed at the event included a small bronze figure of a horned animal, its surface mottled green with age, and a fragment of painted wood, identified on its placard as part of a wooden sarcophagus with a snake design, dated to Egypt's Late Period, about 715 to 330 B.C.

A terracotta head and a small green faience figure were also shown.

The return follows other recent U.S. transfers to Egypt. Urgent Matter [previously reported](https://www.urgentmatter.press/u-s-returns-36-artifacts-egypt-pushes-for-more-amid-grand-egyptian-museum-debut/) that the United States returned 36 artifacts to Egypt in November 2025, days after the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, as the country pressed its global campaign to recover looted heritage.
