# Artists to roll anti-ICE art and voting calls through New York on LED trucks

Art at a Time Like This will send six mobile LED trucks carrying political artwork through New York City on the weekend of October 3, part of a fall campaign the nonprofit is timing to the November midterm elections.

The trucks anchor “Take One Action,” which the group first announced in April as a Frieze-week wheatpaste poster campaign. Urgent Matter [previously reported](https://www.urgentmatter.press/with-freedom-of-speech-under-attack-nonprofit-urges-artists-to-take-political-action/) that ATLT planned to expand the effort across the five boroughs in September and October, ahead of the vote.

Robert Longo, Shaun Leonardo, Sasha Stiles, Marilyn Minter, Jonathan Allen and Victor “Marka27” Quiñonez created work for the trucks and social media, the group said in a news release. Janet Biggs and Terry Berkowitz, Debra Pearlman, Autumn Savage, Kiyo Gutiérrez and Julian Alexander join them, chosen from a nationwide open call that drew more than 200 submissions.

Quiñonez’s poster settles a question left open in April, when ATLT told Urgent Matter his work was “still being refined” but would “address ICE.” The piece, titled “I.C.E. Scream,” now appears in the campaign’s [online exhibition](https://artatatimelikethis.com/take-one-action?ref=urgentmatter.press).

ATLT commissioned Quiñonez after the University of North Texas closed his anti-ICE solo exhibition. Urgent Matter [documented that censorship](https://www.urgentmatter.press/unt-new-interim-provost-warned-leadership-censorship-would-damage-president/) through Texas Public Information Act records.

The campaign was scheduled to open September 17 with a panel on U.S. immigration practices at the Laundromat Project in Brooklyn, featuring Leonardo, filmmaker Christy Chan, immigrant rights activist Jahsiah Montrevil of Families for Freedom and moderator Brian Tate of Tate Strategies, the group said.

On October 3, the trucks will circulate from noon to 8 p.m., stopping at cultural institutions and community events, and end the evening at Powerhouse Arts.

Take One Action falls under [Fall of Freedom](https://www.falloffreedom.com/about?ref=urgentmatter.press), a decentralized national campaign against authoritarianism now in its second year, running October 2 to 4\. Organizers call it an effort to “unite in defiance of authoritarian forces” and say its 2025 debut drew hundreds of events in nearly every state.

Artists including [Dread Scott, Lynn Nottage and Hari Kunzru](https://pen.org/fall-of-freedom-events-across-country/?ref=urgentmatter.press) have backed the campaign. Minter and Longo were among those [linked to its first edition](https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/leading-artists-call-for-nationwide-resistance-against-authoritarian-forces-1234757308/?ref=urgentmatter.press).

Each work carries a call to action. Leonardo’s “Defend” directs viewers to the [New York Immigration Coalition](https://www.nyic.org/?ref=urgentmatter.press); Stiles’s “Let’s Hold Hand Holds” points to [5calls.org](https://5calls.org/?ref=urgentmatter.press); Longo’s “Untitled (Ripped Flag in the Wind)” reads, “Use it or lose it. Vote!”

The online exhibition pairs the commissioned artists with open-call selections including Alexander Burr Clark, Ariel Uzal, Azita Moradkhani, Cassandra Zampini, Dareece Walker, Diana Shpungin, Elissa Levy, Felix Morelo, Grace Graupe-Pillard, Holly Ballard Martz, Jeremy Dennis and Talya Whyte.
