Art Cologne released the participating gallery list Thursday for its Palma Mallorca fair scheduled for April 9-12, outlining the scope of the event months after first announcing the fair’s return to Spain.

The German art fair previously attempted to expand into Mallorca with a 60-gallery fair in a former terminal of Palma de Mallorca Airport in September 2007, but Art Cologne never staged a second edition.

Organizers announced Thursday that the fair will bring 88 galleries and nonprofit institutions from 20 countries to the Palau de Congressos de Palma, the main convention and exhibition center in Palma de Mallorca.

Of the participating galleries, 32 are based in Spain, with 14 of those located on the island itself. The fair is being presented in partnership with Art Palma Contemporani, a local gallery association. Art Cologne has previously said the gallery association had approached them for the expansion.

Another 26 galleries will come from Germany, with the rest hailing from across Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, South America, South Africa and South Korea. Participating galleries range from long-established dealers like Baró, Kewenig, Pelaires and Xavier Fiol to newer galleries like Florit/Florit, La Bibi + Reus and Galeria Fermay.

The debut fair will be divided into two sections. One, called “Gran Saló,” will follow a conventional booth layout. The other, “Parkour,” will allow galleries to show work without standard booths, giving exhibitors more flexibility in how and where works are installed inside the venue. Further details about “Parkour” were not provided.

Several Mallorcan institutions are expected to run parallel programming during the fair, including exhibitions and ongoing programs at local museums and foundations.
